Former Celtic manager now major shareholder of Premiership rivals

The ex-Celtic man has an interesting role with the Scottish Premiership outfit

Gordon Strachan

According to a recent report, Gordon Strachan, the former manager of Celtic, is a significant shareholder in Dundee. The 67-year-old was given shares at Dens Park instead of a salary when he first joined the team, and he currently owns 4% of the company.

Since 2019, the man from Edinburgh has served as the Dark Blues’ technical director. As of right now, they are sixth in the Scottish Premiership standings.

Dundee was where Strachan began his career before he joined Aberdeen. After that, he had stints in England at Coventry City, Leeds United, and Manchester United before moving into management with the latter in 1996.
The ex-Scotland international, who made 50 caps for his country, then spent three years at Southampton before rocking up at Celtic in 2005. In his time at Celtic Park, he went on to win the championship three more times.
Following his break from the Hoops, Strachan played for Middlesbrough and Scotland. At Dundee, he is the fourth-largest shareholder.

Tim Keyes and John Nelms hold the majority stakes, followed by Dee4Life and Smyth Composites. Additionally, the Dark Blues and Burnley have a strategic partnership that has allowed Owen Dodgson, Michael Mellon, and Dara Costelloe to join the team on loan recently.

Promotion

The last time Celtic played Dundee, it was in February at Celtic Park, and they won 7-1. Cameron Carter-Vickers, Adam Idah, Matt O’Riley, Daizen Maeda, Greg Taylor, Callum McGregor and Daniel Kelly scored the goals, whilst Mellon got the visitors’ late consolation.

When the Hoops take on the Rangers on Wednesday, they’ll be hoping Tony Docherty’s team can pull off a favor for them. With a victory, the Gers will pass Brendan Rodgers’ team.

Recently, Docherty was named the March Manager of the Month. “March started just after we had lost heavily to Celtic away from home, but I said we wouldn’t be defined by that result and that what we needed was a reaction, and the players reacted brilliantly in March,” he said on his club website after receiving the awards.

It’s a fantastic testament to the players’ perseverance and efforts. I would also like to express my gratitude to John Nelms and Gordan Strachan for their assistance with the technical aspects.
