A recent update suggests that Celtic are already considering the prospect of offloading another player for a significant sum of money in the future.

Celtic is considering selling Matt O’Riley
Over the years, the Hoops have made several wise acquisitions; Matt O’Riley is one of the most recent. The current Denmark international, who was signed from MK Dons back in January 2022, has played more than 100 games at Parkhead.

Due to O’Riley’s double-digit goal and assist totals this season, there have been rumors of his potential departure during the winter transfer window.

Atletico Madrid, one of La Liga’s top teams, expressed interest in O’Riley, but Celtic, who estimated the player’s worth at £25 million, held firm, keeping the player in Scotland.

According to recent rumors, Celtic may be inclined to sell O’Riley in the summer if they can raise sufficient funds, with Brentford, Brighton, and Leeds reportedly expressing interest.

Paulo Bernardo, a player on loan, is another attacking midfielder who has made an impression this season. According to recent reports, Celtic wants to sign Bernardo on a permanent basis and have communicated this desire to Benfica. However, when the transfer window opens, they will likely try to work out a £6 million option to buy the player at a lower price.
Based on a recent update, it appears that the Hoops have high expectations for the Portuguese gem.

Update on Paulo Bernardo’s transfer

Journalist Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider claims that, considering Bernardo to be a player with “huge” potential, “Celtic plan to develop on-loan star Bernardo with a view to sell him for a big profit” later on.

Celtic wants to make the move permanent this summer because they think the player can develop into a valued player who could fetch more than £20 million, which means they could make up to £14 million when they sell him, the reporter continues.

With Bernardo, 22, emerging as a regular under Brendan Rodgers in recent months, it appears only a matter of time until he joins Celtic on a permanent basis.

In fact, back in January, Rodgers gave the player high praise, saying:

The key is patience. Big clubs occasionally lack patience when it comes to developing players. You can watch him mature and grow. When you have young players, if their mindset and attitude are correct, that is typically what occurs. In the past few games, he has entered the game and contributed goals and assists as well. He is a dogged individual. utterly thrilled for him. Right now, consistency is key.

Watching Bernardo’s development in the upcoming years will be interesting, and if he develops into the player Celtic believes he can be, then a high-profile departure later on might be feasible.
