Celtic set sights on transfer for 27-goal EFL star

Celtic is reportedly interested in Blackburn Rovers attacker Sammie Szmodics, per a Football Insider report.
This summer, Blackburn Rovers will likely have to fight to hold onto the forward.

The 28-year-old Szmodics has scored 27 goals this season across all competitions, with 21 of those goals coming in the Championship.

Football Insider claims that Celtic will “battle” Brentford for his signature during the upcoming transfer window because they are interested in him.

Blackburn Rovers’ star player, targeted by Celtic Szmodics, has a contract with the club through 2026, so they won’t need to sell him this year unless they receive an irresistible offer.
Rovers are currently fighting relegation in the second division, so his prospects of surviving will probably depend on the league they play in the following season.

After relocating to Lancashire in 2022, Szmodics has been very active. In 81 games, he has 34 goals scored.

The two-cap Republic of Ireland international began his career in the Colchester United academy and quickly made his way into the first team before Bristol City signed him.
However, his time at Ashton Gate wasn’t successful, and in 2020 he moved to Peterborough United.
The man, who was born in Essex, scored 27 goals in 96 games for the Posh and has since continued to play well for Blackburn.
He might be viewed by Celtic as a player to strengthen their offensive line for the upcoming season, and they might be able to extend an offer for him to play in Europe. Rangers and the Hoops are currently competing for the Scottish Premiership championship.

Blackburn is currently three points above the drop zone, sitting in 19th place. They play Sunderland away tomorrow after losing 1-0 at home to Ipswich Town the previous game.
