Celtic Boss Under Pressure to Apologise for “good girl” Remarks

Following his Sunday interview in which he called Jane Lewis of BBC Scotland a “good girl,” Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is facing mounting pressure to extend his apology.

After Celtic defeated Motherwell 3-1 at Fir Park over the weekend, Rodgers said this to Lewis. When pushed to elaborate on his statement that “the story has already been written about this group, but we will write our own story,” the 51-year-old manager refused. When pressed further, Rodgers responded, “No, no-you know exactly what I mean.”

Then, Rodgers abruptly halted the Sportsound interview by asking, “Are we done? Well done, good girl.

Two campaign organizations have widely denounced Rodgers’ remarks. According to a statement from Scottish Feminist Network provided to the Daily Mail, “Jane Lewis was just doing her job, trying to extract an explanation from Brendan Rodgers on his cryptic comment.” The fact that in 2024, contempt was the default attitude is both illuminating and incredibly distressing. We believed dinosaurs to be extinct.

For Women Scotland campaigners stated in another statement: “It’s depressing that casual sexism is still embedded in sport.” Women’s accomplishments are minimized and disregarded, and their standing in the workplace is compromised. The reporter deserves an apology from Rodgers.

With 11 games remaining in the thrilling Premiership title battle, Celtic is presently two points behind Rangers. They will play their next game at Celtic Park on Wednesday night against Dundee.
