Advocated for the temporary Celtic manager position, the former Aston Villa manager sparks a debate about Brendan Rodgers.

Aston Villa manager job: Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers discussed by John McGinn | Goal.com Nigeria

In a discussion about Brendan Rodgers’ future, Martin O’Neill has been hailed as a great Celtic temporary replacement.

Pressure is mounting on the Hoops following a 1-1 home draw with Kilmarnock. It made it possible for the Rangers to overtake them in the Premiership and increases the pressure on them after a challenging first season back in the driver’s seat at Parkhead.

The Celtic management team is under fire for not doing enough hiring in January, and the transfer plan as a whole has drawn flak. Rodgers hasn’t avoided some either, with that intense radio argument.

A caller on Go Radio expressed the opinion that former manager O’Neill, who oversaw the team from 2000 to 2005 and served as the coach throughout the team’s journey to the UEFA Cup final, would make an excellent interim replacement. Since then, O’Neill has managed Sunderland, Republic of Ireland, Sunderland, and Aston Villa.

Craig Moore, a hero for the Rangers, reacted to the assertion by saying “what a shout that is” before pulling back. “But Celtic would have to spend a fortune to get rid of Brendan,” he stated.

“If they’re not willing to spend in transfer window I can’t see how that would happen or could happen but Martin O’Neill is a bag of energy!”

John Hartson, a Celtics star who was on O’Neill’s squad, wasn’t sure if the Irishman would be interested in trying again. “I don’t see it happening,” he continued.

“But Michael has thrown the cat among the pigeons there. Celtic fans, get in touch, would you like to see Martin O’Neill back?”
