According to Pat Bonner, the £3.5 million Celtic summer addition is on par with Sead Haksabanovic.

It appears like Celtic won’t have to worry about one spot on the team because they want to bolster the squad with excellent players during the upcoming January transfer window.

Pat Bonner, a former Celtic hero, says as much. When Bonner compared the out-on-loan Montenegro winger Sead Haksabanovic to the Honduran winger Luis Palma, the great keeper was asked what he thought of the player.

“I think I put him in the category of Haksabanovic, that type of player who could come off the bench and make a real impact for that period,” Bonner said [BBC Sportsound].

But he’s unquestionably neither a Jota or among the best wingers Celtic has produced in the past.

“But a respectable, useful player.”

Sead Haksabanovic is not quite as good a Celtic as Luis Palma is right now.

The Honduran just left Aris for Celtic in a summer transfer worth £3.5 million. Palma has made nine assists and scored seven goals in just 20 games, including two in the Champions League. [Transfermarkt]

Not bad for a player who, three seasons prior, was being touted for just over £200k. This season, he has also been incredibly reliable at home, turning in standout performances against Hearts, Ross County, and Aberdeen.

When you contrast that with Haksabanovic, you’ll notice a huge difference. The 24-year-old made just 42 appearances for the green and white Hoops, managing just five goals and four assists.

Not very impressive considering that Palma outscored Haksa in fewer than half of those appearances. You may now wonder how that translates into playing minutes.

Haksabanovic has played 1,358 minutes at Celtic, compared to Palma’s 1,222 minutes. The Honduran is currently more affordable than the Montenegrin, pound for pound, and it appears that he will only get better.
