Matt O’Riley, a midfielder for Celtic, has been linked to several teams recently, such as Inter and Leicester City. However, he has verified rumours that Atletico Madrid made an offer during the January transfer window.
With 11 goals and 15 assists in 39 games this season, the 23-year-old is still Celtic’s creative focal point and is expected to be a top target for Europe’s top teams this summer. It’s possible that Atletico Madrid will come back for him, but they’ll need to offer a higher price to get him out of Glasgow.
“It was cool that Celtic received an offer from them, Atletico Madrid.” Because Celtic wanted more money, I wasn’t very close to leaving,” O’Riley told Tipsbladet in Denmark.
🚨 This summer’s strategy for Atletico Madrid:
– sign a defender or two
– acquire a midfield player – enhance the attacking group

“I don’t feel angry about it. I found it cool that a club like that would be interested in me. Of course, it’s fantastic, because you don’t get offers from Atletico Madrid very frequently. We’ll watch and see.
According to reports, the two parties disagreed by about €8 million on O’Riley’s estimate. Midfield goals are definitely something Atletico hasn’t had much of this season, with Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata carrying the majority of the load. It’s not yet apparent if Atletico wants to add another midfielder in the summer—someone who will play more offensively or as a de facto sitter in front of the defence.
