According to Neil Lennon, he came “very, very close” to being appointed manager of the Republic of Ireland’s national team.
The 52-year-old is well-known for his accomplishments as a manager at Celtic, where he played for 293 games.
Lennon won five Scottish Premiership titles, four Scottish Cups, and the Scottish League Cup during his two tenure in the Celtic Park dugout.
He was fired from his position at Omonia, a Cypriot soccer team, in October 2022 after just seven months in command.
under an interview with talkSPORT Breakfast, Lennon stated that he was eager to get back into management and, shockingly, disclosed that he was on the verge of accepting the Ireland position; John O’Shea is now under temporary leadership.
He acknowledged that, despite being a Northern Irishman and having 40 caps for his nation, “I was really close to the Ireland job.”
Lennon says he was close to the Ireland job and is keen on the Aberdeen vacancy
