Blackburn Rovers will be without a crucial player for their last Championship encounter.

Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 Blackburn Rovers: Owls claim precious win over off-colour Rovers - BBC Sport

Blackburn Rovers manager John Eustace provided an update on a player who was hurt during a recent match against Sheffield Wednesday. The Owls recently boosted their safety bid with an away win against Blackburn Rovers, followed by a win over West Brom.

These results mean Wednesday will only need a point to survive their last game of the season, while either of the two clubs behind them failing to win will suffice. Blackburn is in a similar scenario, but if one of the three teams below them fails to win, they will be safe.

Rovers could secure a point, but face a euphoric Leicester City side at the Kind Power Stadium. The Foxes won the league title this week and will play their first home game since.

Blackburn might face Leicester without manager John Eustace, who has been charged with misconduct and is expected to serve a one-match suspension. However, they will be missing vital player Scott Wharton, who suffered a catastrophic knee injury against Wednesday lately.

“Scotty had a big operation on Wednesday and he’s recovering well,” Blackburn manager Eustace said. “Everything went perfectly, and he’s been off the grass for a long time.

“things’s a tremendous plus that things went well, and I’m confident he’ll come back firing and as the best player he is. His professionalism has been unparalleled during my time here. In all of his performances, he has risen to the occasion and demonstrated true leadership. This is a setback, but I know he has faced setbacks before and recovered stronger.

“He has a terrific family and the support of the players, so I’m confident he’ll be alright. He’s been around the group for the first several days this week, encouraging them to prepare for Saturday. The surgeons informed Proc (Andy Procter) and Scott that everything went as well as possible.

“He is on the mend now. He has a long break and will return around the conclusion of next season, so there’s no urgency, and we’ll make sure he’s mentally prepared for the long road back. He’ll be there, and he’ll do it properly because of the amount of professionalism he demonstrates on a daily basis.
