Birmingham City hoping for star’s comeback next season.

Birmingham City will try to strengthen their newly relegated squad quickly. Jay Stansfield is one player whose future is uncertain when the transfer window opens in the coming weeks.

The Fulham loanee has showed his affection for the club, shedding tears at Birmingham’s end-of-season ceremony, where he received five prizes. This includes the Players’ Player of the Season, Young Player, Supporters’ Player, Goal of the Season, and, eventually, Top Goalscorer awards. Fans will be screaming for a permanent move, but they will also be aware that the 21-year-old has Premier League ambitions with his parent club.

After a thrilling season with the Blues, Stansfield will understandably be attached to the Midlands club.Despite achieving 12 goals and two assists in his debut season in the Championship, his temporary team was unable to prevent relegation. The English striker’s chat with Birmingham Live offers hope for a return next season, despite the impossibility of signing a permanent contract.

“I believe I’ve developed such a strong bond with the supporters and the team that I wanted to give my all in every game. We came up short in the end, and everyone in the club is wounded. I believe the club will be back where it belongs very shortly. Hopefully, they will be able to progress next season.

“I won my respect on the first day and could demonstrate why I selected Birmingham. Walking around the city and witnessing the fans, as well as how welcoming and hardworking everyone is, you realise that there are amazing people everywhere.

“We’ll see what happens; I’m moving back to Fulham and will do my best there. That is my current team, and I need to apply all I’ve learned here to them. “The blues will always have a place in my heart.”

There’s no doubt that Birmingham would show no hesitation to bring Stansfield back to St. Andrew’s for another year or even on a permanent basis. However, with teams around the Championship circling for strikers more than ever, the 21-year-old may want to continue harnessing his abilities in the second tier for another year, or hope to carry last year’s momentum into a first team push at Fulham.

The London club already have Rodrigo Muniz and Raul Jimenez as their preferred strikers. But, with the latter turning 33 yesterday, and struggling to replicate his earlier form following his recent injury, Stansfield could be trusted to emerge as a much-needed backup next season.
