Birmingham City is on the verge of relegation as the new year approaches after a dismal start to the season. The Blues are falling after going four games without a victory, though they are still in 20th place and seven points above the bottom three.
To put it mildly, the Blues’ decision to fire John Eustace and bring in Wayne Rooney as his replacement has backfired, and the latter is currently under a lot of pressure. We have looked at the players who are not under contract at St Andrew’s this summer in anticipation of City executives getting ready for the winter and summer windows. Look down below.
1. John Ruddy
Ruddy could well get a short-term extension after featuring regularly this season.
2. Keshi Anderson (Option of a further year)
Blues have the option to automatically extend Anderson’s deal.
3. Kevin Long (Option for a further year)
Blues also have the option to extend Long’s deal.
4. Neil Etheridge
Etheridge hasn’t featured regularly this season, He could be allowed to move on.
5. Lukas Jutkiewicz
Veteran Jutkiewicz is another out of terms this summer. He is 34 years of age.
6. Marc Roberts
Roberts may struggle to get a new deal at 33 and having featured sparingly.
7. Gary Gardner
Gardner has nine appearances to his name in the league this season. He likely has work to do to win a new contract.
8. Scott Hogan
Hogan has been a regular, but Blues will likely want to reduce his wage given he is now 31 years of age.
9. Ivan Sunjic
Sunjic will surely be a player Blues want to keep hold of given his presence this season.
10. Emanuel Aiwu
Aiwu is on loan until the end of the season, but Blues have an option to make the deal permanent.
