“Amazing,” says Rangers star Alison McConnell, “overcoming the label of ‘Serial Loser’ after receiving criticism.”

Rangers: Alison McConnell calls James Tavernier, the captain of Ibrox, a “serial loser.”

With his recent “phenomenal” performances under Philippe Clement, Rangers captain James Tavernier has reportedly been able to shed his reputation as a “serial loser,” according to Alison McConnell.

Since Clement moved to Ibrox, the 32-year-old has performed admirably, winning the Viaplay Cup at Hampden Park and amassing 12 goals and eight assists in 26 Premiership games.

Although McConnell thinks Tavernier’s goal-scoring record in Glasgow is commendable, the Rangers right-back has shown remarkable mental toughness to recover from harsh criticism at the beginning of the season.

On Thursday, February 22, she stated on PLZ Soccer, “The goal return is phenomenal.” I would qualify that by saying he’s scored a lot of significant goals, in big games at important times. I know a lot of them will be penalties and free kicks.

He has scored goals in stuffy games Rangers have played this season that have given them all three points, and I’m not just talking about the goals in Europe. He’s recovered rather well, in my opinion, from the label of serial loser.

“Handling all that criticism demands a certain level of mental toughness.”

Can James Tavernier win the Premiership with the Rangers and shrug off the label of “loser”?

The Rangers captain has demonstrated that he still has a lot to give in a blue shirt, despite some commentators’ claims just a few months ago that he had lost his touch and his time at Ibrox was over.

As McConnell indicated, the 32-year-old’s record alone in front of goal has been incredible, but he has also scored some very significant goals for Rangers this season and during his whole time in Glasgow.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement

Philippe Clement has overseen an excellent turnaround at Rangers.

Though it may be claimed that the Gers captain hasn’t achieved enough victories, Tavernier will need to win the Scottish Premiership at the end of the year in order to really shed the label of “serial loser.”

The Light Blues are still aiming for three more crowns this season, even though they have already won one trophy this term. Tavernier needs to win at least one more championship to truly establish himself as a winner with the Rangers.
