Journalist Michael Gannon disagrees with the popular belief that his partner, Jacinta Galabadaarachchi, left to travel to Portugal, which was one of the reasons he departed.
Indeed, Gannon goes so far as to argue that Starfelt’s justifications or reasoning for leaving to join Jacynta are just untrue.
Gannon added, “The girlfriend thing was a bit of a red herring,” [Record Celtic podcast]. He decided to accept a better offer that he had been eyeing in Spain.
“I believe that the girlfriend situation was somewhat of a red herring.”

Whatever anyone may think, Carl Starfelt was still a very excellent Celtic defender despite all of his shortcomings.
A story about Starfelt was developed from the moment he signed and participated in his first game versus Hearts at the start of the 2021 season.
Starfelt was nearly immediately written off after a poor debut in a 2-1 loss at Tynecastle, but the Hoops never dropped a game when he teamed up with Carter-Vickers in the center of the Celtic defense.
