Following FIVE erroneous calls involving Rangers, Philippe Clement has responded to the conclusions of the SFA’s independent VAR review panel.

Following the revelation that the panel had ruled 13 decisions from the second round of Premiership fixtures to be incorrect, the SFA issued a statement yesterday. Gers were on both sides of the decisions: Jose Cifuentes shouldn’t

have been sent off against Dundee, and John Souttar shouldn’t have conceded a penalty against Kilmarnock. Ross McCausland’s penalty win against Livingston was also ruled to be erroneous.

The SFA’s handling of Celtic vs. Gers on December 30 and the penalty that never was when Alistair Johnston handled inside his own area were once again the main talking points.

Although Clement has responded to the report, he maintains that it should not be revisited and that it is all in the past.

“To be honest, I missed the list because it was in the past,” he remarked. As you are aware, I have frequently stated to you guys that I exist in the present and the future. However, it’s beneficial to have transparency, which is crucial, and that mistakes are communicated so that we can grow from them.

Philippe Clement has addressed the SFA’s independent VAR review panel findings after Rangers were involved in FIVE incorrect calls.

The SFA released their statement yesterday after it emerged that 13 decisions were deemed by the panel to have been wrong from the second round of Premiership fixtures. Gers were on both sides of the decisions with Ross McCausland’s penalty win against Livingston deemed incorrect while Jose Cifuentes should not have been sent off vs Dundee and John Souttar’s concession of a penalty against Kilmarnock should also not have been given

The major talking point, again, was the SFA’s handling of Celtic vs Gers on December 30 and the penalty that never was when Alistair Johnston handled inside his own area.

But while Clement has reacted to the report, he insists that it’s all in the past and is something to be learned from rather than dwelled upon.

He said: “Honestly I didn’t see the list because it’s the past. And you know I’ve said to you guys a lot in the past I live in the present and on future. But it’s good to have transparency which is an important thing and that when faults are made, there is communication and we can learn lessons out of

“If I make mistakes, it’s the same.” Transparency and communication are critical for football, and I believe it’s critical that managers and referees communicate more frequently—even if it’s only twice or three times a season—aside from games.
