Celtic defender returns to training following concerns over an injury

After being replaced after 66 minutes of the midweek victory over Hibs due to a hamstring injury, Stephen Welsh looks to have fully recovered.

It was stated that Maik Nawrocki’s hamstring tightness prevented him from starting, partnering with Liam Scales.

Brendan Rodgers would have been quite concerned about losing another central defender given that Cameron Carter-Vickers is already sidelined due to injury.

Before their Scottish Cup match against St Mirren on Saturday morning, Celtic released a training video from Lennoxtown, where Welsh was used extensively throughout all of the drills and exercises.

Following Wednesday’s victory over Hibs, Rodgers was questioned by Sky Sports on Welsh’s injury.

His hamstrings were tense. Thus, tomorrow we will need to check it with the medical staff.

If Welsh was out, Gus Lagerbielke would be the next in line for a center defense, but it appears that Nawrocki and the Academy graduate will be Scales’ teammates.

Due to injuries, Rodgers will have to use his backup full-backs, Tony Ralston and Alexandro Bernabei, instead of Greg Taylor and Alistair Johnstone.

The game on Sunday will be played to the end, using extra time and penalties if needed.
