“Absolutely unexpected”: Journalist proposes a £15 million West Ham player for Celtic rather than Van Hooijdonk

Will Celtic sign a much-craved striker before the January transfer window slams shut on Thursday?

The name of Sydney Van Hooijdonk, son of former Celtic star Pierre, has been mentioned with journalist Mark Guidi stating that he is ‘on the list’.

But he also dropped in the name of West Ham United striker, Danny Ings, as he told Go Radio.

The 31-year-old moved to the London Stadium last January from Aston Villa for a fee of £15 million, but he has struggled during that period.

Mark Guidi spoke about Celtic being ‘creative’ in the market and possibly doing a ‘short-term’ option, before throwing in the name of Danny Ings.

There is no way the Bhoys can get him on board via a transfer fee, not a chance, unless the Hammers are willing to lose big money on him.

But his wages, even on a loan deal, would be an issue because they are inflated Premier League wages, so something would have to give there for that to happen.

Whilst it’s very unlikely, this is what Mark Guidi said about Celtic’s search for a striker, with the winter window days away from slamming shut.

Danny Ings to Celtic

“I think he was on the list,” said Guidi about Sydney Van Hooijdonk.

“What they will be doing now, we are into the last three days as you really look at your options. And you will find a bit of movement now because teams need to get people off the wage bill. They will be trying to move a few on, if they get a few in. That’s what Celtic will be trying to do.

“So, it could well be Sydney Van Hooijdonk. It could be Bojan Miovski or Lawrence Shankland. It could be somebody right out of the blue from down the road who isn’t featuring.

“Could it be a short-term thing? Could it be Danny Ings from West Ham? Who knows. That’s where, through your contacts, you have to be creative in the market.”

Celtic’s search for a striker

Kyogo Furuhashi is the king of kings at Celtic, but his form has been indifferent this season and depth is needed.

Many continue to raise doubts over Hyeongyu Oh, so this isn’t a case of kicking those two out, but bringing someone in to freshen things up.

The team’s timid and slow performance during the win over Ross County on Saturday just increases the noise for another striker to be signed.

Look, anything can happen from now until the window slams shut, and if it does, then it could be game-changing for the team.
