Director thinks Rangers have signed a ‘fantastic player’, could cost up to £6m

Rangers have signed a ‘fantastic team player’ in Mohamed Diomande with the Ivorian midfielder arriving in excess of £4 million from Danish outfit FC Nordsjaelland.

Following the confirmation of Mohamed Diomande’s departure on Friday morning, the Superligaen outfit could hardly have been more glowing in their assessment of a man who has justbecome Rangers’ second signing of the calendar year.

The Scottish Premiership challengers, who beat St Mirren 1-0 on Saturday thanks to Cyriel Dessers’ early strike, have landed themselves one of the most effective, most versatile midfielders in Scandinavian football.

Rangers sign Mohamed Diomande from Nordsjaelland

“He has had an enormous impact on the development we have gone through,” sporting director Jan Laursen explains, Diomande a huge part of the side which finished second last season.

“He is a fantastic team player who takes responsibility both on and off the field. And, for the same reason, we want to help him further, although it would have been fantastic to keep him.

“He has contributed so much and been top-loyal throughout. Which is why, after careful consideration and many talks with ‘Dio’ himself, we have chosen to fulfil his wish to switch to Rangers.

“We believe that there is much more in store for him.”

Reports in Denmark suggest that Diomande, who joins on loan with an obligation-to-buy clause in his contract, could eventually set Philippe Clement’s side back up to £6 million. Labelled ‘one of the best midfielders’ in the country by the Nordsjaelland coach, Diomande is a very modern profile; press-resistant, excellent at receiving possession between the lines, and comfortable both starting attacks and stopping them.

Jack and Lundstram nearing Ibrox exits

“In this process, it has been clear to all of us to feel how much Rangers believe in ‘Dio’,” adds Phil Radley, Director of Football Operations at FCN.

“We are pleased to experience a club like Rangers FC that understands what it is that he brings both on and off the pitch, and can see a plan for the next step in his development.”

Diomande’s arrival will ease the pressure on Rangers to agree new contracts for John Lundstram and Ryan Jack. The Glasgow giants could bring in a third player before next week’s deadline, meanwhile, having agreed terms with Fluminense for 20-year-old left-back Jefte.
