Paulo Bernardo to Celtic transfer is 'realistic' as Brendan Rodgers plans talks with Benfica starlet - Football Scotland

Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Celtic, has disclosed that he is aware of the cost required to sign Paulo Bernardo to a long-term contract and that he believes any possible agreement to be “completely realistic.”

While he had to wait patiently for an opportunity at Celtic Park due to Reo Hatate’s injury in the Champions League, Bernardo moved up and took his place in the starting lineup when the Japan star was sidelined. Bernardo joined the Hoops on loan from Benfica in the summer.

After making his way into the team, Bernardo began the season slowly but after turning in some outstanding performances around Christmas, he cemented his place in Celtic history with a skillfully executed volley to open the score against Rangers at Parkhead. Since then, he has blossomed into a true star player for the team.Football Scotland has previously disclosed that his release clause is worth £6 million. In response to fans’ demands for a permanent deal involving a Portuguese player on loan from Benfica following Jota’s summer transfer to Al-Ittihad, Rodgers has stated that a transaction of that magnitude would be’realistic’ to close.

Before Scotland Cup match against Buckie Thistle, Rodgers stated: “I’m very happy for Paulo because he wanted to come here and work on his game.Frank is thrilled by Toney’s goal-scoring comeback to Brentford.

“He has been picking up our play’s fundamentals bit by bit. Even if it has been more difficult for him to show up, he has clearly been given opportunities in some of the biggest games. Until he learned how we operated, we may have wanted players who could score goals more frequently domestically, which is why he ended up on the sidelines.

“However, I thought he would start the Rangers game, and we wanted to give him that run of games in advance, and he’s been outstanding.” He’s a top professional with an ancient mind on a young shoulder.

He hasn’t changed since the first minute he played, but I can see him improving and becoming more self-assured among the players. His game is improving because he now understands exactly how we operate, play, and what is expected of us. He’s been great, and I think he’ll continue to improve.

“We have a contract with the club that we can choose to activate. Do I know how much it will cost? Indeed. Is that one reasonable? I won’t reveal the amount, but it is unquestionably there or it wouldn’t be in place. It is obviously two-way. However, I can tell he’s having a great time and that he’s growing and changing.

“Watching that young, promising talent develop is encouraging, but it also shows that you need to exercise patience with players. Certain players have the ability to immediately make an impact at a club. For a player, moving involves a lot of factors, including family, children, culture, and weather. While some settle in more quickly than others, he has been incredibly professional and a pleasure to deal with. When the season is almost over, I’ll have a seat with him and decide how to proceed.”
