Coventry City and Sheffield Wednesday release statements about the allegations of racism against Kasey Palmer.

Palmer claimed to have witnessed a racist gesture from the crowd during the Owls vs. Sky Blues championship game. The owners of each club have now made remarks in statements released by the clubs.

Sheffield Wednesday and Coventry City are shocked and saddened by the racist gesture from the fans that was reported by Sky Blues midfielder Kasey Palmer during today’s game at Hillsborough, according to a statement released by Wednesday.

“Both clubs vehemently denounce any kind of prejudice and mistreatment, emphasizing that neither football nor our larger community tolerate this kind of behavior.

“We will collaborate with the appropriate authorities, and anyone found to be at fault will be subject to the harshest penalties imposed by Sheffield Wednesday and the law. We are united with Coventry City and the football community in putting an end to this reprehensible and completely unacceptable behavior.

“We absolutely condemn the abuse reported by Kasey Palmer today and stand together with Coventry City in our clear stance that there is no place in football or society for such appalling behaviour,” stated Wednesday’s owner, Dejphon Chansiri.

The following was stated in Coventry’s statement: “Coventry City is shocked and saddened by the racist gesture directed at our player Kasey Palmer in today’s game at Hillsborough against Sheffield Wednesday.”

“We categorically denounce the mistreatment and make it abundantly evident that neither in football nor in our larger community is this kind of behavior acceptable.

“We anticipate that any identified supporters will face consequences, and pertinent authorities will be consulted in this regard.”

Owner of Coventry Doug King stated: “We will support Kasey after this incident and completely condemn the abuse aimed at him today.” This has no place in society or in football, and we urge Sheffield Wednesday and the authorities to take the most severe measures.
