The manager of Coventry City says that the racism allegation made against Kasey Palmer by Sheffield Wednesday is “ridiculous.”

Coventry, Sheffield Wednesday condemn alleged racist remarks made towards Reggae Boy Kasey Palmer

At Hillsborough, the attacker for the Sky Blues was in the corner between the North Stand and the Kop when he rushed to the referee and claimed that someone had made monkey gestures towards him. This led to a protracted play delay.

Since then, Coventry and Sheffield Wednesday have both issued statements denouncing any racist incident that may have occurred. The Owls have stated that they will be working with the authorities to ensure that “anyone proven to be culpable will face the strictest possible sanctions from both Sheffield Wednesday and the law.”

Additionally, Mark Robins, Palmer’s manager, has pushed the Owls to act quickly, saying to Sky Sports following the game that “part of the game is the supporters having a go at individuals – whether it’s managers, players, coaches or anything… However, racism goes too far, and no one should have to put up with that. It has no place in this society.

It’s just out of order, so I’m hoping there’s a clear image of what’s happened and that they handle it properly.

“Kasey reported the incident to the referee as soon as it happened, and while I don’t want to give it any weight, he notified me as soon as it happened. There is now a system in place, so after we were let in, they read us the statement and gave Kasey a chance to explain what had transpired.

It’s completely absurd, and nobody should have to go through that. However, I hope they identify the offender and receive justice for their actions.

“We absolutely condemn the abuse reported by Kasey Palmer today and stand together with Coventry City in our clear stance that there is no place in football or society for such appalling behavior,” said Dejphon Chansiri, chairman of the Owls, in a statement.

Wednesday lost the match 2-1; Ben Sheaf had given the visitors a two-goal lead before halftime, with Josh Windass scoring the game’s consolation goal.
