‘A really important player’: Kenny Miller reacts to claim Celtic should sign Kilmarnock 26-year-old

Celtic sent a transfer message about Kilmarnock star following Nicolas Kuhn's arrival

Danny Armstrong is having a pretty fruitful campaign in the colours of Kilmarnock this season and his name was suggested to Celtic recently.Kenny Miller reacted to a Celtic fan claiming that the team should look to sign Danny Armstrong during the January transfer window.

First off, with the arrival of Nicolas Kuhn, there are now enough wide players for Brendan Rodgers to pick from at Celtic, and even more so.

But Danny Armstrong is versatile and can play across the pitch, including in the middle of the park, upfront and even a gig at right-back.

Kenny Miller labelled the 26-year-old as ‘very important’ for Kilmarnock and someone who has been ‘performing so consistently’, as he told Clyde 1.

And he interestingly suggested that Celtic and Rangers perhaps ‘overlook’ what they have on their doorstep when it comes to bringing in talent.

That’s why a certain Lawrence Shankland, scoring goals for fun a Hearts this season, is getting the headlines.

Danny Armstrong to Celtic?

“He definitely wouldn’t have been in my thinking about Celtic being interested in him,” said Miller.

“He is having a great season. He is a really important player for Kilmarnock, who is playing in a really good team, at this moment. With Celtic, it’s a big jump.

“Would signings such as your Armstrong’s or Shankland’s, guys that are actually doing it in the league, are they less of a risk? I think they are. But teams like Celtic and Rangers seem to overlook teams that are performing within our league.

“But you are right. Armstrong has had a brilliant season. There is no doubt that he is performing so consistently, probably more consistent than the Celtic wingers, at this moment in time.”

Danny Armstrong isn’t needed at Celtic

That’s not the type of player the club now needs or would push for. As mentioned above, if Celtic are looking inside this league to sign a player, then it’s probably someone like Shankland or Aberdeen’s Bojan Miovski.

And even then, those two divide opinion with the fanbase.

When it comes to dominating on the domestic stage, the team have done it down to a tee for years and years now and it’s a case of carrying that on.

Where the club wants and needs to take the next step is in Europe. And that’s where the question needs to be asked is, if the above players would do that and the simple answer is, no.
