Owen Beck, a young full-back for Liverpool, is still a target for Celtic, who have received some advise from a rival Scottish Premiership manager on how to sign the player.
The 21-year-old Welshman, who had two disastrous loan stints at EFL League One team Bolton Wanderers and Portuguese side Famalicao, immediately established himself in Scotland. He spent the first half of the season on loan at newly promoted Dundee.
Following an outstanding tenure at Dens Park, he was called up by the Premier League heavyweights earlier this month, and he has since been connected to both the Hoops and their local rivals, Rangers. His future is now unknown as Reds manager Jurgen Klopp, who is still waiting on the recovery of backup Kostas Tsimikas and Andy Robertson from injuries on that flank, will be in charge of any potential deal. After spending a recent spell on the treatment table, both players are anticipated to resume full training at the end of January.Leading Premiership team Celtic is still interested in signing Beck this month after keeping an eye on his development since October. However, they are aware that they will have to wait to find out if Liverpool will move Beck back north of the border. According to Football Scotland, Klopp wants to stay onto Beck as long as he has limited choices for that position.
Many Scottish football fans believe that Beck is the greatest left-back in the league this season. Both Glasgow teams are looking to add a left-sided defensive reinforcement in January, and Dark Blues manager Tony Docherty has disclosed how he was able to entice Beck to Tayside in the summer.
In an interview with BBC Sport sound, Docherty said that Beck didn’t require much persuasion to decide to transfer to Dundee. “I have a lot of good contacts in the game and am very experienced in it,” he stated, having worked for a while but not as a manager. Owen had a lot of admirers, and I had a contact at Liverpool specifically.
It was our serious task to persuade him to visit Dundee, a recently promoted team. However, Owen’s circumstances include two prior loans that were unsuccessful for him. All I could do was make an appeal to him about what I could offer and what I could promise to him because he wanted to go abroad and joined Bolton Wanderers. Gordon Strachan and Stuart Taylor also had a significant influence in it, saying, “Come to Dundee and we’ll try to make sure we commit to you and you commit to us.” I believe that commitment has been made by all of our loanees, not just Owen, and it all comes down to the relationships you make. However, Owen has had success recently, making 20 appearances and breaking into Liverpool’s first squad. With any luck, those connections will only grow going forward.”
