‘I have already apologised’: Buckie Thistle manager shares what he told his players about Celtic

Buckie Thistle will travel down to Celtic at the weekend for a Scottish Cup Fourth Round game of a lifetime against Scotland’s crown jewel.

Graeme Stewart is the man leading the team in Scotland’s Highland Football League and he has admitted that he has ‘already apologised to the guys’.

The simple reason for that is he will ‘bombard’ his players with information about Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic this week as they prepare for the biggest game of their history, as he told The Scottish Football Podcast.

You would expect Celtic to use the weekend game to restart the season again and prepare for a very crucial second half of the campaign.

It will be interesting to see how strong the Bhoys will go, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if some of the big boys will play to get their engines going again.

From that perspective, the Buckie Thistle players will enjoy the occasion more because they will be able to pit their skills against Scotland’s best.

And after a late win over Huntly over the weekend, Graeme Stewart admitted his team can now ‘enjoy’ what is coming up for them.

Celtic v Buckie Thistle

“We spoke about that (the upcoming Celtic tie) before the game (against Huntly),” said Stewart. “We said ‘Look if we don’t win this game, then we probably aren’t going to enjoy the following week as much as we would.

“Absolutely delighted (with the recent late win) because we can now enjoy the next week.

“I honestly haven’t thought about it. I will now, don’t get me wrong. I am focusing on it now. We have to be honest. We have won already by getting there. We have won, in terms of finances for the club and the exposure the club has got has been fantastic, so we have taken in new fans and sponsorship. All of that has been amazing.

“But our focus was on the league. That’s what I was doing. I have a full-time job and a family. Now I can fully focus on it. I have already started today. I have already apologised to the guys because they are going to get bombarded with information over the next week. We are going to need it. It’s nothing like we have faced before. We have to be focused and pressured. If we aren’t prepared, then it could get silly.”

Celtic aiming for the double

The performances and the results during the first half of the campaign have been mixed from Celtic.

But the key thing about it all is that the chance to win the double this season is still very much on.

Destiny is in the team’s hands when it comes to the Scottish Premiership and it’s a case of being ruthless in the cup.

A new arrival is also seemingly on its way, with Rapid Vienna winger Nicolas Kuhn joining Celtic.
