‘I had that mindset’ – Roy Keane recalls talks with Wanderers

Roy Keane disclosed that prior to joining Celtic, he had discussions about a possible transfer with Wanderers.

Before hanging up his boots, the midfielder, who played for Manchester United for the majority of his career, lived north of the border.

Keane claims he had many choices to stay in the Premier League, including playing for Bolton under Sam Allardyce.

Everton was also considering signing the Irishman, but at that point in his career, he wasn’t interested in signing for another English team.

Keane told The Overlap, “I spoke to Everton, Bolton, and a couple of other teams.” “I had that weird mentality where you’re being forced out of a club and you can’t sign with other teams.

“I felt I couldn’t go to another English team, but Everton would have been a good move at the time—the location, and I had a lot of respect for David Moyes.”

“I went to Celtic, an iconic and amazing club,” he continued. The training ground is something I had not really seen, but the stadium is incredible.

“I’m going back a few years, and they currently have a nice one.” I was in the Celtic dressing room. At Celtic Park, we changed into our boots and kit and drove to the ground.

“I was injured all the time, so I didn’t kick a ball at Celtic.” Even though I was completely at ease at Manchester United—and I treasured every second of my time there—I did find it refreshing to spend six months in a different locker room.

“The Celtic boys are excellent guys overall, albeit there were a few morons among them. I had a great time there and interacted with a variety of boys and dynamics.

Keane ended his playing career and went on to manage Sunderland and Ipswich. He now contributes frequently to Sky Sports as a pundit.
