Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has addressed the situation regarding Kyogo Furuhashi and a shoulder issue that he is currently managing, refuting the suggestion he needs to undergo surgery anytime soon.
It’s long been known that Kyogo is dealing with an ongoing shoulder problem. The Japanese star sometimes needs to be substituted if it pops out of place during matches.
However, getting it fixed would require the player to be out for up to four months and it seems he is in no rush to undergo a procedure, which isn’t urgent.
The Celtic boss has now suggested that Kyogo may wait years to finally sort out the shoulder, meaning there is little concern for the Bhoys moving forward.
Kyogo shoulder concern addressed
Rodgers said [Sunday Post, 07/01 print edition]: “Kyogo is moving back towards what I would expect from him with his runs, his movement and his opportunities. But his shoulder still the same.
He could get it fixed but he’d be out for four months. Listen, if it was something that was desperate then he would have the operation. But it’s not imminent.
“It may be something he decides to do in three or four years’ time. It’s not desperately needed, otherwise clearly, he would have it done.”
Losing him for months would be pretty disastrous so it’s clear why nobody is any rush for that to happen. The risk has clearly been evaluated by the club and the player.
After a difficult period for his Celtic form, Kyogo once again proved his quality with a stunning goal against Rangers in the recent 2-1 derby win, having ended a scoring drought against Livingston the week prior.
He remains the club’s joint-top scorer this season with 10 in all competitions. It will be key to get him firing and confident in the second half of the season if the Bhoys are going to go on and win both trophies still available to them.
