‘I am now going on,’ says player after Rangers’ exit was announced last night.

Ben Williamson has spoken out on social media following the revelation of his departure from Rangers following his transfer to Hamilton Academical.

The Gers stated on Thursday (4 January) that the academy product has joined the League One club on a permanent basis, after the completion of his six-month loan spell at Partick Thistle on Monday (1 January).

The 22-year-old Scottish midfielder said on Instagram that his 15-year association with the club, where he and his family have been season ticket holders, has come to an end, while wishing the Light Blues success this season.

It’s a real shame for Williamson that his time at Rangers hasn’t worked out as he would’ve hoped after failing to break through into the first-team picture.

The midfielder clearly loves the club and is a genuine supporter after spending a number of years in the club’s academy before being offered professional terms.

But since coming through the club’s ranks, he has never managed to make a senior appearance after heading out on loan to five teams over the past three years.

After Partick decided not to extend his six-month loan, he has now made the permanent switch to Hamilton in a deal that probably didn’t generate the Gers much – if any – cash at all.

But the Light Blues fans will no doubt wish him well as he looks to get his career moving forward in a bid to help the League One side achieve promotion this season.
