Billy Gilmour sends four-word message as Rangers transfer announcement made

Following the confirmation of his departure from the Rangers, Billy Gilmour sent Ben Williamson a four-word message on social media.

The youth product has signed a permanent contract to play for League One team Hamilton Academical, the Gers announced on Thursday, January 4.

In an Instagram post, the 22-year-old Scottish midfielder said that his time at the team he “loves” had come to an end. Brighton player Gilmour replied, “all the best mate,” to the midfielder’s wishes for the Light Blues.

The fact that Gilmour wishes Williamson well isn’t shocking, considering the 22-year-old pair would have played together for several years in the Rangers academy.

It will be quite disappointing that neither of them ever got to play for the senior team, even though there were high aspirations at Ibrox that they would both go on to represent the club.

Despite being on professional terms for a few years, Williamson has not had an appearance in the first team, and Gilmour left the Gers in 2017 to join Chelsea after eight years.

The former has been out on loan multiple times in the last three years; he spent six months at Championship team Partick Thistle before moving to Hamilton earlier this week.

Allowing the midfield player to depart on a permanent basis is the wisest course of action for all parties involved as it will provide him some stability to advance in his career and demonstrate why the Light Blues retained him for such a long time.
