‘Nobody is talking’ – BBC pundit takes subtle dig at one Rangers player amid recent controversy

Mark Wilson has taken a subtle dig at Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers amid the ongoing SFA and Wille Colum controversy post the Celtic game.

The BBC pundit believes that the club are deflecting from a poor performance from Dessers and even managerial decisions from Philippe Clement.

Celtic ended up winning the game 2-1 but it was not a game without controversies and they’re still being highlighted a week after.

What Rangers are doing are deflecting,” said the former Hoops full back on Clyde Super Scoreboard, via the Daily Record. “And I’ll tell you what everybody is doing now; they’re talking about the decision. They’re not talking about Rangers being beaten after being on the ascendancy, and Celtic apparently stuttering and brendan Rodgers being under pressure. Nobody is talking about that.

“Nobody is talking about the manager’s team selection. Nobody is talking about Dessers, nobody is talking about the manager’s substitutions. It’s about the statement put out about Willie Collum, and the rest has all been forgotten about.

It was the same after the game at Ibrox. Everybody spoke about that decision rather than the actual defeat. It’s deflection.

Wilson’s comments appear to dismiss the significance of Rangers’ grievances with the refereeing decisions, attributing the focus on VAR controversies to mere deflection.

While he acknowledges that Clement’s side were beaten and criticises the team’s performance, his emphasis on deflecting attention from poor refereeing decisions seems dismissive.

The controversy surrounding the VAR decisions, particularly the penalty call, is a legitimate and impactful aspect of the match that warrants discussion.

Wilson’s assertion that nobody is talking about the manager’s team selection, Dessers, or substitutions might overlook the fact that such aspects are often discussed in the broader context of post-match analyses.

However, in high-stakes matches like the Old Firm, contentious refereeing decisions can understandably take centre stage, influencing the narrative surrounding the game.

Most Rangers fans would agree that Dessers’ performance was below par but that’s not the main reason why they ended up losing the game.
