During his tenure as Celtic’s manager, Ange Postecoglou wished to add Ko Itakura to the team, as Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported.During his tenure in command, the Australian had success scouring the Japanese market for new players, and Romano has verified that Ange followed this up while he was at Spurs.

Romano said on Twitter/X that Itakura is a player to keep an eye on in January as several teams are keeping an eye on the central defender in anticipation of a move. The transfer guru went on to say that while Ange was at the team, Celtic had Itakura on their transfer list.

Although Celtic was eager to sign the player from Manchester City, the Japanese international chose to leave Schalke and then transfer for €5 million to Gladbach in the summer of 2022.

Ange signed J-League players Kyogo, Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, Yosuke Ideguchi, Tomoki Iwata, and Yuki Kobayashi; nevertheless, the defender, who is currently playing for Borussia Monchengladbach, was strongly linked to Ange. Although teams in Europe are well aware of the potential being generated in Japan, the Scottish Champions have generally had success with their trading from the country and will probably keep an eye on any new talent that emerges there in the future.
