McKenna led the Blues to a historic second consecutive promotion on Saturday, with a 2-0 victory over Huddersfield propelling them into the best league on the planet.

When asked about the burden of preparing for the top division following the game, McKenna said: “that’s a tremendous step up, there’s no doubt about that.

“I don’t want to think about it too much today, but I know it’s a huge step forward in every aspect of the football club.

“It will be a big challenge to even compete in the Premier League.

“We are aware that there will be significant challenges ahead, but they are challenges to welcome and embrace.

“No one outside believed we could get to this point. Those are things to look forward to, but they should be considered next week.

“This weekend is for revelling in what we’ve done so far.”

McKenna is familiar with the Premier League, having previously served as Manchester United’s assistant manager.

He is excited to resume his role as manager of the Blues.

He stated, “I’ve coached in the Champions League when I was 31/32, the Premier League, and been involved in those big games, which is brilliant.”

“You want to challenge yourself against the top clubs, teams, and coaches. It will be a fantastic challenge to go through that again.

“My value comes from how I help others around me, how I represent the football club for which I work, and how I strive to better the team, players, and club.

“Of course it’s going to be fantastic to have that challenge in the Premier League next year, but it’s been fantastic to have it this year in the Championship and it was fantastic to do it last year in League One too.”
