Brondby manager Jesper Sorensen has hinted that Mathias Kvistgaarden, a long-term Celtic target, may join the club in the summer.

The Danish striker has attracted interest from Scottish Premiership leaders, with an offer worth over £4 million reportedly rejected last summer. Brendan Rodgers is looking to bolster the Celtic Park frontline. With clubs lining up to sign the 22-year-old in the January transfer window, Brondby ruled out any exit talks as they pursued the Danish Superliga title.

However, the forward’s season came to an abrupt end after a knee injury that had hampered him all season flared up during the 2-1 win against FC Copenhagen. Boss Sorensen has admitted he does not expect Kvistgaarden to play another game this season, with speculation quickly turning to a summer departure from the club.

Speaking to Tipsbladet , Sorensen lifted the lid on talks with the frontman after his latest injury hammerblow. He said, “I’ve told him he’ll be back even stronger. We all know that’s how he is. It’s a minor blip on a long and prosperous road for him.”

Sorensen responded with “a smile on his face” when asked if he would ever play another game in a Brondby shirt, according to the Danish outlet. He answered, “That’s a good question.

“I’d rather not speculate about it. I hope not, but we’ll see. I’m not really sure what time will bring.”
