‘Defining moment’: Kris Boyd admits he knew exactly when Rangers blew the title to Celtic

Celtic’s chances of retaining the Scottish Premiership took a turn in December, when two losses to Hearts and Kilmarnock allowed Rangers to re-enter the picture.

Since then, the media has focused on Philippe Clement’s success and the Celtics’ poor performance.

Although both statements were true, many believed the title race was already over after Brendan Rodgers’ team worked hard for a few weeks. The media’s focus on the Rangers was quite embarrassing.

In April, Celtic leads the league by three points with only five games remaining, thanks to Rangers’ slip-ups against Ross County and Dundee and the return of most injured players under Rodgers.

Kris Boyd confirms Celtic League title

Kris Boyd, a former Rangers striker and Sky Sports pundit, has revealed that he witnessed his team’s loss of the league title to Celtic.

According to Boyd [Daily Record print edition, page 50], Rangers will be judged on their ability to win titles rather than just cups.

“The fans have put themselves in a position to win the league, but with the last three games, Rangers may have squandered a golden opportunity.

“It is not over, but it will be extremely difficult. You’ll look back on the last few weeks as a defining moment.

“Forget the start, the manager lost his job, Clement came in and transformed the club. But you can’t just look at it and say, ‘We’ve got ourselves into a title race’ – you’ve got to go and win it.”

Now let’s get one thing straight. The reason there is a title race is because Celtic’s injuries caused a drop in form which allowed Rangers to get back into it.

Hard work and graft have kept Celtic close at the top of the table and whilst nothing is decided yet, the momentum is with Rodgers and his team now that he almost has a full quota of players to choose from.

With Dundee away facing Celtic and Rangers heading to an in-form St Mirren, this Sunday could prove to hold more twists and turns as the title race heads to it’s conclusion.
