The most expensive Celtic XI

Although a gem can be found at a discount store, Celtic has a reputation for searching far and wide for exceptional players.

In the current game, player-trading models are all the rage, and the Premiership champions are fully committed to their fit. They try to buy cheap and sell high; Jota’s nearly £20 million profit last summer is a glaring example of the game in action.

In the 1990s and early 2000s, players from overseas and in the South were lavished with large sums of money. While some became club heroes, others were bombs that fans could hardly even pronounce.

Nearer to the present, large sums of money have been invested, with varying returns, and record fees have been paid. Glasgow World uses a 4-4-2 formation to calculate the most expensive Celtic by using Football Transfers as a metric. Chris Sutton, for example, could not play up front because the only restriction on a player’s position move is that it cannot be more than one space forward or backward.

Our XI is valued at approximately £67.3 million in total. Let us examine who is where.

The goalkeeper joined from AEK Athens and cost £281,000 per league game. Had his contract ripped up and moved to Utrecht.
