Coventry City manager Mark Robins was overjoyed to learn that his squad will be playing in the FA Cup semifinal against Manchester United, his old team. Robins gave a straightforward, one-word assessment of the draw: “Perfect!”

Under Sir Alex Ferguson, Robins began his football career at Old Trafford, where he also won the FA Cup. Ever since, he has been a fan.

But he was unambiguous when he said, “Coventry City are my team, one hundred percent!” following his seven years as manager of Coventry. In response to the question of which team is his second favorite, he chuckled and answered, “Yes, that would probably be fair.”

Robins observed Sunday’s thrilling United victory over Liverpool. He believed that Saturday’s Wolves vs. City quarterfinal set the tone for an amazing football weekend.

“I watched it and I thought the whole weekend was outstanding, the games were all entertaining and there were lots of goals,” he remarked in an interview with Coventry Live. Ours, in my opinion, established the standard and was just amazing. Everyone who played it felt that it was one of those games they would never forget. It was excellent.”

“It was an open game on Sunday, and Man United showed bravery,” he continued. They had to adjust, putting strikers and midfielders at full-back and going after it; they were successful in doing so. And the final goal for them came from Amad Diallo. Although United ultimately prevailed, I believe that our performance set the standard for the others.”

“I honestly think that the teams that are left are just top, top sides, but my preference was United,” he said in response to the question of which team, among Manchester City and Chelsea, he would like to play against at Wembley. It appeared for a while that Liverpool would advance, but suddenly everything completely changed. Naturally, I wanted United to win the match, and it was wonderful that we were pulled out first and they came out after us.

“Any squad you choose, though, would make for an exciting game. Although they have both individual and elite players, we may still anticipate this game. We can go and try our hand at Wembley against a top team led by a top manager. It’s an amazing trip to Wembley for the fans, players, staff, and all involved.”

He went on, “We want to try and go and give a really good account of ourselves again, and enjoy it, but they’ll be expected to win, 100%.” Ultimately, reaching this point is a tremendous accomplishment, but it’s one of those situations where you don’t want to go in and make up the numbers. It’s challenging for you to participate in the game because it’s on a different level once more, but we’ll certainly analyze that.

“But it’s for later because we have games scheduled before that, starting with the most significant one, which is against Huddersfield.
