Stoppage time goals from Ellis Simms and Haji Wright gave Coventry City a sensational FA Cup victory over Premier League Wolves.

Simms gave the Sky Blues the lead early in the second half but Wanderers scored twice in the last ten minutes of normal time through Ryan Ait-Nouri and Hugo Bueno as the game ran into ten minutes of overtime.

But then Simms headed home a dramatic equaliser in the 97th minute before Wright curled in the winner with 90+10 on the clock to send Mark Robins’ side through to the semi-finals at Wembley in an historic victory.

Commanded his area well in the opening half, taking high balls into the box and made a decent stop a his near post to deny Semedo.Other than that, not really troubled a great deal in the opening 45 minutes. Good save to deny Gomes. Had no chance for the goal from point blank range.

Haji Wright celebrates with teammates after scoring his team's third goal during the Emirates FA Cup Quarter Final match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Coventry City at Molineux.

JOEL LATIBEAUDIERE: 6.5

Deployed at right-back where he was turned inside out by Ait-Nouri early on but recovered his composure and confidence to battle on with plenty of aggression and determination in his play. Failed to clear for the equaliser, putting the ball inadvertently on a plate for Ait-Nouri to score.

BOBBY THOMAS: 7.5

Read the danger well and got a foot in early and was quick to clear from the box. Communicated well with Kitching and kept on top of young front man Nathan Fraser for the most part, the striker eventually being replaced. Defended with real aggression throughout as City battled to a man. Flicked a header for Simms to equalise.

LIAM KITCHING: 7.5

Defended positively and confidently in the opening 20 minutes as City settled into the game but was skinned by Semedo at the byline and fortunately City weren’t punished as Lemina scuffed his shot over the bar. Passed the ball well out from the back. Sent a brilliant header across the face of goal for Simms to score. Denied a goal by the keeper who saved at his near post from a Bidwell crosss.

JAKE BIDWELL: 7

Got stuck in trying to win the ball back and had to keep plenty of discipline and shape in an attempt to stem the threat from Wolves’ right, not least from Nelson Semedo and Pablo Sarabia. Squared the ball to Simms for what should have been a simple tap-in, albeit there may well have been a VAR check for off-side. Sent in a lovely cross for Kitching to be denied by a good save at the near post as City threatened to get a second.

MILAN VAN EWIJK: 7.5

Deployed higher up the pitch on the right wing, the Dutchman was a decent outlet going forward and went on an eye-catching solo counter attack from a Wolves’ corner until he ran out of steam while under pressure from a defender. Put in some decent deliveries and denied by the keeper when played through by Simms.

JOSH ECCLES: 7

Worked hard and covered lots of ground out of possession, helping to close Wolves down and win back the ball. Made good interceptions and passed the ball well. Denied by a block with a low driving shot in the second half.

BEN SHEAF: 7

Made a welcome return to the starting line-up, providing a calm head in and out of possession. Made one really poor pass but got away with it as Wolves failed to take opportunity to counter attack but generally excellent on the ball.

KASEY PALMER: 8

Didn’t look out of place at all, starting the game with a swagger and testing the keeper with a low shot which Jose Sa pushed out to Bidwell who, in turn, sent the ball in for Simms who should have scored a tap-in. Effortlessly beat two players down he left to spark a decent attack early in the second half as he continued to catch the eye. Sent in the free-kick for Simms’ goal. Lifted the ball just wide of the apex of the goal when he should really have put it in the top corner from a great chance for City to double their lead.

ELLIS SIMMS: 10

Led the line confidently and showed good strength against Premier League opposition. Played his part at the back as well, helping to head clear se-pieces. Somehow unable to tap home from a square pass from Bidwell after Palmer’s shot had been palmed away by the keeper in City’s best chace of the opening 36 minutes. Set Van Ewijk up for a brilliant chance to score before the break when the keeper made a good save. Bundled home with his hip at the far post to give City a 53rd minute lead. Scored at he back post again to pull City level in added time and set up Haji for the winner.

Haji Wright of Coventry City runs with the ball whilst under pressure from Tommy Doyle of Wolverhampton Wanderers

HAJI WRIGHT: 9

Sent a shot fizzing across the face of goal in the first 15 minutes and made a lively start on the left flank. Worked hard and forced to drop back to defend regularly. Scored a priceless winner with a lovely finish into the bottom corner to send City to Wembley.
