On Saturday afternoon at Molineux, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Championship team Coventry City square off in the FA Cup quarterfinals (12.15pm)

Chris Sutton believes that Wolverhampton Wanderers’ victory over Coventry City on Saturday afternoon (12.15pm) will move them one step closer to FA Cup glory. It might only take 90 minutes for Wolves to advance to the semi-finals of the most prestigious cup competition in the world.

Coventry, their opponents in the Championship, stands in their way of making the final four. But with home advantage at Molineux, Gary O’Neil is expected to continue his “phenomenal” work with a significant victory.

“What an opportunity this is for both clubs with Wembley waiting for the winners,” Sutton said in his most recent pre-match column for BBC Sports: “My old teammate Mark Robins has done a brilliant job at Coventry, who he has taken from League Two to within touching distance of the Premier League – they were a penalty shootout away from promotion to the top-flight last season – and are only a point off the play-offs this time.”

Sutton continued, “You have to fancy Wolves here, though, and not just because they are at home,” indicating that he is picking the team to win 2-1. They ought to control possession, and ultimately, I think their superior talent will show.
“Wolves have no incentive to rest any of their players because the international break is the next week, and since they won’t be demoted any time soon, why not go for it?

“I doubt many Wolves supporters anticipated a season like this one when Gary O’Neil took over as manager three days before the team’s season began, replacing departing manager Julen Lopetegui. They now own the ninth-best record in the Premier League and can go to the FA Cup semifinals. O’Neil’s performance is outstanding, and I believe their FA Cup run is far from over.”

To get to the final eight, Wolves defeated Brentford, West Brom, and Brighton. In contrast, Coventry won the first round against non-league team Maidstone, Sheffield Wednesday, and Oxford United.
