Yuki Kobayashi’s desire for a loan move back to Japan has been blocked by Celtic. The player, who hasn’t featured for the first team since Brendan Rodgers took charge in June, was sought after by J-League club Kashima Antlers for a nine-month loan deal. However, Celtic has opted against this move, indicating that there may be no pathway back into the team for the 23-year-old defender, as reported by the Daily Record.

After his contract with Vissel Kobe expired in January 2022, Kobayashi signed a five-year deal with Parkhead. He made five appearances under Ange Postecoglou’s management last season. However, his presence in the first team dwindled following a 4-2 defeat to Hibs and a poor performance in a 3-0 loss at Ibrox in May, both matches occurring after Celtic had secured the title. Since then, Kobayashi has not been part of the first-team setup.

Interest in Kobayashi has emerged from Finnish side HJK Helsinki, as well as Major League Soccer clubs Dallas and Real Salt Lake, but Celtic has blocked those potential moves. Additionally, a potential transfer to Harry Kewell’s Yokohama F Marinos also did not receive approval.
