Stephen McGinn describes Alexandro Bernabei as “really harsh,” claiming that Celtic have a B team player who is far superior.

Stephen McGinn says Celtic have a B team player who is much better than Alexandro Bernabei

According to pundit Stephen McGinn, Celtic have a young youngster that he thinks is superior to Alexandro Bernabei. The defender from Argentina has had a lot of difficulty in Glasgow after arriving from Lanus in June 2022. And following yesterday’s transfer update, it appears that Bernabei is scheduled to depart the team after making just 28 first-team appearances for the green and white hoops.

The only recognized first-team full-back for Celtic would be Greg Taylor if the 23-year-old were to finalize his move to Brazilian outfit Sport Club Internacional. This would leave Celtic severely short in that left-back position.

Not unless Brendan Rodgers gives the Celtic B team a quick look; there’s a guy sitting in the wings who might easily provide the much-needed insurance. That’s what McGinn says.

[The Go Radio Football Show]: McGinn stated, “I’m probably happy that he is going.” Upon examining Alexandro Bernabei—and I know this sounds harsh—I saw that, when it comes to left backs, the size is the first thing you notice.

“You see his size right away and assume he’s too little to be a defense. You then conclude that he must possess exceptional ball skills.

He’s quite erratic with the ball. He has good crosses and bad crosses at different times. He’s been in possession of the ball when it breaks down a lot during his recent Celtic games.

He moves quickly, but not very quickly. He is poor in the air, as demonstrated by the goal he just lost, and he is unable to protect his back post.

“When you see somebody like Mitchell Frame within the building, he must possess qualities that make him a better fit to play for Celtic, right?

And with the way he’s playing, I doubt we’ll see him on the field until the end of the year. I anticipate Liam Scales, Mitchel Frame, or Anthony Ralston being deployed as cover.

McGinn and I both agree on this. Although I acknowledge that Taylor’s form has made it tough for Bernabei to break into the Celtic first team, he hasn’t been able to take advantage of the opportunities that have come his way.

Conversely, young Frame has the ability to develop into a very talented player for Celtic. The 18-year-old defender was thrown in for his Champions League debut in the team’s victory over Feyenoord, and he received great reviews for not looking out of place in the greatest league in Europe.

He hasn’t played since, though, and with Bernabei’s impending departure, perhaps he’ll get another opportunity before the season ends.

The Celtic supporters will be hopeful that this is the beginning of the club’s ambitions to start bedding in some of our top talents in Lennoxtown to the Celtic first team, especially with Rodgers giving young players like Daniel Kelly and Rocco Vata a shot this season.
