Coventry City defender heads out on loan deal

Coventry City defender Riccardo Di Trolio has joined Welling United on loan, as announced by the non-league side.

Coventry City have let the youngster head out the exit door on a temporary basis.

Di Trolio, 18, will be looking to get plenty of game time under his belt in the National League South to boost his development.

He spent time away from the CBS Arena at Bishop’s Stortford earlier this season.

Di Trolio’s move to Welling suits all parties involved. He will get some experience under his belt before returning to Coventry and his new team get someone to help boost their survival hopes in the sixth tier.

The prospect joined the Sky Blues in January 2023 from St Albans City and was immediately loaned back out to the Saints.

He has been a regular for his parent club’s development but is yet to make a first-team appearance under Mark Robins

The Italian, who can play centre-back or full-back if needed, played 10 times for Bishop’s Stortford in the National League North earlier this term and will be keen to build on his time there with a successful spell at Welling now.

Di Trolio temporarily leaves behind a Coventry team who are eyeing a place in the Championship play-offs. They were beaten 2-1 away at West Brom last time out, with Haji Wright on the scoresheet for them from the penalty spot.

The Sky Blues have lost their last two league outings in a row and have slipped to 9th in the table.

They are now five points off the top six with 11 games left to play. Next up for Robins’ men is a home clash against bottom of the table Rotherham United which is a good opportunity to return to winning ways.
