Rejected Celtic arrival, according to Kenny Dalglish, has “made many critics eat their words”

Kenny Dalglish says criticised Celtic arrival has "made many critics eat their words"

Kenny Dalglish has been a voice of reason throughout the 2023/24 season when it comes to Celtic. When many were panning the club and writing off their Scottish Premiership title chances, Dalglish always maintained that the Bhoys would stay in the race until the final two derbies of the season.

Celtic look ready to make that challenge despite a few stumbles and today’s match against Hearts at Tynecastle could be a massive moment in the trophy chase.

The Bhoys have a chance to go top of the table with a win at Tynecastle. Dalglish reckons January signing Adam Idah will be the man relied upon to get goals in the Celtic attack.

Idah’s arrival drew plenty of criticism at the time but he has proven to be an important talent already, netting five crucial goals in just six appearances.

Kenny Dalglish on Adam Idah at Celtic

Dalglish has been left very impressed, telling The Sunday Post [03/03 print edition]: “Adam has really excelled. His arrival at the end of the January transfer window was greeted with a mixed reaction. Some people wanted Celtic to spend a few million quid on a recognised striker.

“They got Adam, who was not starting games for Norwich City in the English Championship. But he has made many of his critics eat their words with vital goals at Hibernian and last weekend at Fir Park.

“He came off the bench to score with a cracking header and then put his side 2-1 ahead in stoppage time with a brilliantly taken goal.

“Adam gives Celtic a different option from Kyogo, and it’s something that’s working well. He looks to be loving life in Glasgow and I expect him to start today.”

There’s no doubt that Idah has earned his place in the Celtic team. If he starts ahead of Kyogo Furuhashi today, nobody would really have a problem with it.

Whatever Rodgers is getting out of the Republic of Ireland striker right now is working. Sometimes a transfer can unlock confidence and potential in a player who wasn’t hitting the heights elsewhere and Celtic should harness that as much as possible.

He’s an excellent focal point for a more direct style of play from the Bhoys and hopefully it’s a set-up that punishes Hearts later this afternoon.
