Pat Bonner, pointing to an alternative, is not persuaded by the January signing.

Pat Bonner shed light on the stark contrast in performance between Nicolas Kuhn and Hyun-Jun Yang during Celtic’s latest outing against Motherwell.

The switch of Kuhn for Yang in the second half proved crucial in a game when the Bhoys pulled off a remarkable comeback to win 3-1. In addition to helping the team win, Brendan Rodgers’ change emphasized the unique effect Yang’s skill had on the field.

Bonner was reluctant to be too hard on Kuhn because the player has struggled to leave a lasting impression since moving to Celtic in the winter, but he couldn’t help but notice that the team’s energy immediately increased after Yang joined. The 21-year-old Korean winger’s contribution—which included helping to set up one of Adam Idah’s pivotal goals—was vital in maintaining the same lead over Rangers going into the weekend.

“I don’t want to be too heavy on Nicolas Kuhn, but he has been around for a while, Celtic paid money for him, and he is getting decent wages at the club,” Bonner stated in an interview with BBC Radio Scotland. However, I found that the contrast between him and Yang in the second half was quite striking. You can occasionally doubt Yang as well, but he is far superior.

Many Celtics supporters are hoping Yang can continue this way and, ideally, get a run of games to demonstrate his abilities beyond what he has thus far.
