Match Thread: Lincoln City vs. Wycombe Wanderers

For what duration have you been a Wycombe Wanderers fan?
I have been a Wycombe supporter for more than 35 years. When we were still in the non-league, I used to see us play at Loakes Park, our former home. Since then, a lot has changed.

What expectations did you have for the 2023–2024 season, and what do you still have?

I hoped for play-offs but felt lower mid-table was more plausible. Now, I still have the same hope.

How do you feel about your manager?

Before a true assessment of Matt Bloomfield can be formed, time and patient are required. More outspoken members of our fan base believe he has had enough of it.

Playing and tactic style: hybrid, passing, or direct?

We have gradually begun to deviate from the conventional style that many supporters of the opposition think we play. Even while we still have a physical and aerial component, we aim to possess the ball more than in the past and use players like McCleary, Sadlier, and Dale Taylor to feed Sam Vokes.

Who or what should I keep an eye on going forward?

Right now, Richard Kone is the one name that Wycombe supporters can’t stop talking about. A player who was first on the club’s radar almost 2 years ago. Richard was seen participating in the Homeless World Cup for Ivory Coast. Due to visa concerns, he has occasionally trained with the team but has only been allowed to participate in Essex Senior League Football. On Tuesday, he made his debut and scored. There’s a lot of hope that he can repeat that today.

Unusual information about your club

When we score two goals without the opposing team touching the ball, we hold the record. Our excellent friends from Peterborough visited Adams Park in 2000. We took the lead with the final kick of the first half and again at the start of the second. We try not to remind them of it too frequently.

Which Wycombe Wanderers games were your favorites and least favorites?

The replay of the 2001 FA Cup fifth-round match against Wimbledon has to be the clear favorite. A game that had everything imaginable.

Probably any contest played under Alan Smith would be the worst. The ability of one individual to erase the heritage of their forebear is quite amazing. Even now, just hearing his name makes me shiver.

Can you imagine Gareth Ainsworth having a comeback tour, should the gig become available, or has that ship sailed?

I will reluctantly decline. Even though Gareth is still a legend and will always be viewed as a hero, his presence would indicate that things with Matt aren’t going well, and nobody wants that.

In what areas of this January window do you think your team needs reinforcements?

It’s encouraging that certain acquisitions for attacking positions have already been done. I still prefer a more experienced central midfielder and a backup left-back.

Which teams do you predict to place in the top four and bottom six?

Given how much has changed, it is difficult to recommend any other solutions, while Fleetwood and Burton seem like the obvious choices at the bottom.

Bolton and Derby should automatically advance to the top, but Posh and Pompey should also be strong contenders. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Blackpool experience a spike as well.

How do you feel about Lincoln City?

I think Lincoln is a great club that we should look up to for guidance on how to run things.

Which Lincoln player, and why, would you pick for your squad if you could?

The guy who scored the crazy goal against us last season just so we never need to endure that again.
