“Boys are quite down” | Hammers defender says side must learn after cup exit

Following the U21 team’s defeat to Wycombe Wanderers in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, Kaelan Casey has acknowledged that there was a great deal of hurt inside the group.

Though Casey believes their experience and skill made the difference against the determined Hammers team, our youthful Academy players were eliminated from the competition at the last-16 stage after losing to the senior League One team.

Casey said, “All the boys are quite down in the dressing room.” “After we had that one cleared off the line, we could have forced penalties at the end.”

“You get punished at this level, so these are the outcomes of starting slowly.”

The defender for the Irons emphasized the years’ gap as Wycombe leveraged their expertise to win, while West Ham’s U21 team sought to grow and learn from the experience.

Casey addressed the clubs, saying, “I think it is just the physicality and a lot of their players have played in the League and have a bit more intelligence about them.”

“Well done to the boys for persevering through the end and putting on a show in the second half. All we had to do was throw away our opportunities.

“Unfortunately, there are a few clearances that are not in the running. To be fair, I felt that we had stolen a draw and taken it to penalties.

“I thought the boys played really well defense in the second half, but it’s a hard one to take.” We need to go back up and concentrate on the league right now. All we need to do is maintain getting better till the end of the season.
