Alan Parry’s Previews: One final outing ahead another busy summer

After completing four away games in just 11 days, Wycombe is finally returning to Adams Park to face Charlton Athletic in their last match of the 2023/24 season on Saturday, April 27.

Regardless of the outcome against Charlton, who are currently on a fourteen-game unbeaten streak, Wycombe has concluded the season positively, offering their fans plenty to anticipate in the upcoming season.

Despite the disappointment of losing at Wembley in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy Final, Matt Bloomfield’s team managed to secure a draw against promotion contenders Derby County, followed by three consecutive away wins and a draw at Cambridge United in the midweek fixture, extending their unbeaten streak to five games.

A victory against Charlton would secure a top-10 finish in League One, concluding a season marked by both highs and lows. The reverse fixture at The Valley saw Wycombe suffer a 3-1 defeat, although West Ham loanee Freddie Potts scored an exceptional goal.

Charlton has seen managerial changes, with Michael Appleton being replaced by Nathan Jones, making him the seventh manager in just three years. Despite their past encounters, Wycombe has only won three times out of ten against Charlton, who are currently six places and nine points below them in the league table.

Leading the League One scoring charts with twenty-three goals, Alfie May, a potential threat for Wycombe, once netted four goals in a thrilling 5-5 draw at Adams Park while playing for Cheltenham Town.

With several Wycombe players approaching the end of their contracts and new signings on the horizon, a busy summer transfer window awaits before the start of the 2024/25 season in August. Enjoy the summer break and stay tuned for updates!
