Transfer news: Humphrey Ker agrees Wrexham are ‘desperate’ to sign 22-year-old this summer

With their promotion to League One confirmed, Wrexham will have a busy summer transfer window as they make their first trip back to the third division since 2005.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have drastically altered Wrexham’s trajectory over the past few years, making for an incredible roller coaster for the team.

Last year’s promotion from the National League saw Wrexham return to League Two, only to then follow it up with another promotion just last weekend.

A 6-0 thrashing of Forest Green Rovers booked Wrexham’s place in League One before Crewe Alexandra were beaten 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

With champions Stockport County visiting the STōK Cae Ras this weekend, Phil Parkinson still has one game left.

After that, attention will shift to the summer and the Wrexham players’ trip to Las Vegas for a second promotion party.

Parkinson and company, however, will be thinking about the transfer window because Wrexham needs reinforcements in order to compete in League One again.

Although few people genuinely anticipate a third straight promotion, League One consolidation will still require effort and reinforcements.

Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo is one player wanted at the STōK Cae Ras for the upcoming season, but there aren’t many rumors circulating around Wrexham at the moment.

Okonkwo, who played on loan at Wrexham this season, emerged as Parkinson’s clear first-choice stopper.

The 22-year-old, whose contract with Arsenal is about to expire, has been fantastic this season.

Many Wrexham supporters are hoping that Okonkwo, who will soon be a free agent, will commit his future to the team instead of going elsewhere.

Although Okonkwo will be a difficult recruit for Wrexham, executive director Humphrey Ker has now stated that the team is “desperate” to sign him.

Ker joked that he was man-marking the enormous goalkeeper at the EFL awards in order to prevent other teams from attempting to speak with him about deals. Ker told Men in Blazers that Wrexham would like Okonkwo to stay permanently this summer.

“I attended the EFL Awards; Arthur Okonkwo and Elliot Lee, two of our players, were nominated for EFL League Two Team of the Season,” Ker remarked. We needed to make sure Arthur didn’t engage in too much polite small talk with people, without me hovering over his shoulder and asking, ‘What are you guys talking about?’ We knew there would be a lot of people from other football clubs there, so I had to go man-mark Arthur. “I’m here too,” he continued.

Wrexham ought to tempt Okonkwo.

Numerous other clubs are already aware that Okonkwo will be targeted this summer.

According to The Daily Mail, clubs in Europe as well as those in the Premier League and Championship are interested in Okonkwo.

Although it will be difficult for Wrexham to win this race, Okonkwo ought to be at least intrigued by the prospect.

Okonkwo has performed admirably at Wrexham, and the team’s quick ascent demonstrates what an intriguing endeavor this has grown into.

At this point in his development, Okonkwo should focus on playing regularly for the first team, and Wrexham has demonstrated that he is capable of doing so under Parkinson.

Although Okonkwo’s future will be discussed until he makes a decision, we believe Wrexham has a good chance of landing a long-term contract, particularly if Ker just hangs around to prevent other clubs from contacting him.
