Ruben Amorim speaks after flying to London to hold talks with West Ham

In Demand manager Ruben Amorim didn’t say much as he made his way back to Portugal from a hectic trip to London where he had discussions with West Ham about taking over as manager after David Moyes.

The Sporting Lisbon manager traveled to the English capital on Monday to meet with the Hammers and discuss the club’s plans after the current campaign ends.

And when the 39-year-old arrived back in his native country just after midnight on Tuesday, a group of reporters greeted him and inquired about his future.

Despite being bombarded with questions and having multiple cameras and photographers in his face, Amorim laughed off speculation about his next move.

He merely told the media, “See you Saturday,” referring to his upcoming press conference that will preview Sporting Lisbon’s game against Porto on Sunday night.

Ruben Amorim was met by a swarm of journalists after landing back in Portugal on Tuesday

Amorim traveled to London on a plane that the owners of West Ham arranged, according to a CNN Portugal report on Monday, to meet with them about taking over as manager of the London Stadium.

He reportedly left Portugal on Monday after Sporting’s training session with businessman Raul Costa in tow.

The Portuguese captains will take two days off before going back to training on Thursday in order to get ready for this Sunday’s crucial matchup against Porto.

Amorim was at the top of Liverpool’s list and could be had for £12.8 million by English clubs, but he is no longer the front-runner for the Anfield position.

Until the end of the season, a decision will be made regarding Moyes and his possible replacement. Julen Lopetegui has had discussions with the Hammers.

The Spaniard, who left Wolves in the summer, is a more realistic option for West Ham. He is eager to return to management.

The season’s contract expires for Moyes, but he declared in February that he has been offered a new contract and that he will decide whether or not to accept it.

Tim Steidten, the technical director of the Hammers, has compiled a list of potential candidates. According to Mail Sport, Amorim, who has guided Sporting Lisbon to within a whisker of winning the Portuguese championship—his second in four seasons—has been in talks.

Portuguese reports claimed he had reached a deal with Liverpool, but people close to the team downplayed this and insisted he was simply one name on a shortlist.

After fan favorite Xabi Alonso ruled himself out of the running, new Liverpool CEO Michael Edwards and sporting director Richard Hughes were reportedly prepared to choose “brave over popular.”
