David Moyes urges angry West Ham fans to support Kalvin Phillips - Offaly Live

Following the enraged incident at Newcastle’s post-match on Saturday, West Ham United manager David Moyes made a decision about midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who is on loan from Manchester City.

The 28-year-old, who left Manchester City in January in quest of consistent playing time, is currently on loan at West Ham for the balance of the current season. On Saturday, he returned to the Hammers first-team coach at St. James’ Park and let out an angry tirade.

The West Ham midfielder, who had given up a penalty during the team’s thrilling 4-3 Premier League loss to Newcastle, was seen giving fans the finger as he boarded the team bus on Tyneside.

The Englishman was playing in his seventh Premier League match for West Ham this past weekend as he looks to rebound from a challenging 18 months at the Etihad Stadium.

Even though Phillips was a member of Pep Guardiola’s treble-winning team the previous season, he has only made six starts for Manchester City since joining the team in July 2022 for £42 million after leaving Leeds United.

The 28-year-old decided to join West Ham during the January transfer window after turning down the chance to leave Manchester City during the summer. David Moyes signed the midfield player in spite of interest from a number of other Premier League teams, including Newcastle and Fulham.

Amid concerns over his spot in Gareth Southgate’s England team ahead of this summer’s European Championship in Germany, the Englishman sealed a loan move to east London. The Three Lions boss left the Leeds-born midfielder out of recent March international matches.

Hammers manager Moyes has shown his public support for Phillips in spite of the events that occurred after the game on Saturday, saying: “Kalvin Phillips is a human being; what he needs is support and people to help him.”

“We’ll stand by Kalvin. He’s a tremendously excellent player, and I think we can still get something done with his time here.

Tuesday night in the Premier League, West Ham takes on Tottenham at the London Stadium. Under manager David Moyes, the team is now seventh in the league and is vying for European qualifying for the upcoming season.

The East London team is also vying for back-to-back European championships; this month, they take on Bundesliga powerhouse Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League quarterfinals.
