Journalist: Steidten holds ‘face-to-face talks’ with manager as West Ham close to appointment

It seems West Ham United are actively pursuing Julen Lopetegui as a potential replacement for David Moyes, with technical director Tim Steidten reportedly engaging in face-to-face discussions with the former Real Madrid manager.

According to Alex Crook’s report on X, Lopetegui’s move to West Ham is progressing, and while Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim remains a contender, Lopetegui appears to be the frontrunner.

These developments suggest that West Ham’s interest in Lopetegui is substantial and that talks have reached an advanced stage. Steidten’s involvement in direct negotiations indicates a serious intent from the club’s hierarchy to secure Lopetegui’s services.

The situation with Moyes, whose contract is nearing its end, adds to the intrigue surrounding West Ham’s managerial situation. While Moyes remains in charge for now, the club seems to be actively planning for a change, with Lopetegui emerging as a leading candidate to take over at the London Stadium.

However, that doesn’t appear to have halted the West Ham technical director’s work as he is still doing everything he can to find the Scotsman’s successor and it appears that after several different discussions, he may have found his man.

Whether this deal gets over the line remains to be seen and it is unclear when or where an announcement could be made by the Hammers. It seems unlikely much clarity emerge before the end of the campaign unless there is a surprise in store.
