CoMplicated: TalkSPORT journalist updates about West Ham and Julen Lopetegui

With David Moyes possibly leaving West Ham United, the club may have a busy summer ahead of them.

The Hammers manager’s contract expires in the summer, and there isn’t a compelling reason to believe he will stay on after the current campaign.

According to a recent report by Football.london, Moyes is scheduled to speak with David Sullivan, the owner of West Ham, but it’s widely expected that the team will look for a new direction.

In fact, rumors have begun circulating that connect the Hammers to former manager Julen Lopetegui of Wolves, Real Madrid, and Spain.

Additionally, talkSPORT’s Alex Crook provided a significant update regarding the two parties on Friday night.

What was said by Alex Crook regarding Julen Lopetegui and West Ham?

On the talkSPORT website, Crook stated that West Ham and Lopetegui are currently in advanced negotiations.

Additionally, he stated on his X account that he and Tim Steidten had in-person conversations.

Lopetegui is currently the favorite, but Ruben Amorim still has a chance, Crook continued.

According to the report, Moyes is not happy with West Ham’s approach in identifying possible successors for him while he is still employed.

The report also stated that Steidten has consented to stay away from the West Ham first team dressing room until the end of the season.

Things appear to be moving more quickly from Lopetegui to West Ham.

In the upcoming days or weeks, let’s see if we hear anything more specific, or even if there’s an official “here we go” statement.

Julen Lopetegui has a strong resume

Lopetegui’s positions as manager of Real Madrid, Porto, and Spain attest to his high regard as a manager.

He was unlucky to have both of the latter positions, as his country fired him ahead of the 2018 World Cup due to the Bernabeu scandal.

Then, under Lopetegui, Los Blancos got off to a slow start before quickly breaking away from him.

The 57-year-old has managed Wolves and Sevilla since then before leaving in 2023. It appears that he may soon take on another Premier League role.
