THE END OF AN ERA: West Ham United has decided to part ways with David Moyes at the end of the season, Fabrizio Romano

West Ham United has decided to part ways with David Moyes at the end of the season, according to Fabrizio Romano

On Sunday (5 May), Romano wrote on his personal X account that Julen Lopetegui has been approached to replace the 61-year-old, whose contract at the London Stadium expires this summer.

It is understood that the decision to let Moyes leave was made prior to the Irons’ defeat in West London this weekend.

Who will be West Ham’s next manager?

Given the club’s recent form, it’s no surprise that Moyes’ tenure as West Ham manager is coming to an end.

It’s a shame to see it end this way because he’s done an outstanding job at the London Stadium, easily becoming the greatest manager to grace East London in decades.

When he returned to the club in 2019, he saved the Irons from relegation to the Championship despite inheriting a disorganized squad from Manuel Pellegrini.

He then went on to win consecutive seasons in Europe, including the 2022/23 Europa Conference League in Prague last year.

If anyone from the last few decades deserves a statue at the London Stadium, it’s Moyes, which is why it’s so disappointing to see what appears to be a team that has given up ruining his Stratford swansong.

Everyone appears to have run out of steam. No one seems to be buying into Moyes’ game plan. Unfortunately, many fans have turned against the Scotsman for quite some time now.

Lopetegui may not be a popular choice, with many preferring to keep Moyes.

But that appears to be the direction David Sullivan and co are taking.

Let’s see how that goes.

In West Ham news, Sullivan has been “won over” by talks with the manager.
